Women of China did not have authority to hold any position that demonstrates power. They were considered as merely objects of pleasure and they were forces tie down knots of marriage. They were not allowed to run away and escape from marriage. In the ceremonies of marriage they used to appear covering their selves all over, blinded to the events of the marriage until they were in their marriage bed. Men used to see all the stuff of external affairs while women were bound to take care of their homes. Within the household there used to be ranks of wives of a man. The head wife in a household had certain charges and control. For instance, head wife had the authority to give permission to go outside, permission to spend money and take decisions related to the education of their children and directing other wives in the house (Beverly, 23).

What distinct status of women in China from status of women in Rome and Greece is that in Greece and Rome men were allowed to have other woman than his wife and they were not held accountable for that. All the laws were for women. But, in China men were also not allowed to select or choose a woman for marriage. This task is usually performed by the matchmaker or any other close relative. Another reason that differs from the role of women in Rome and Greece is that in China, status of women also used to depend on her economical status. Mothers of young nobles, and specially child Emperors, effectively ruled in place of their sons. They also used to hold formal titles, status and position. (Ramusack, 32).
