A Whitianga teenager, allegedly in midst of the cyber crime network causing millions of dollars in damage, admitted six computer crime charges when he appeared in Thames District Court today. Owen Thor Walker, 18, who has Asperger syndrome, has accused FBI of being "Akill '- leading the group of international programmers that set up the botnet that infected the million computers with the virus and resulted in the estimated $ NZ26 million-plus of economic loss. Botnet is the network of hacked computers that can be controlled by the single computer via Internet. Although some of charges Walker was convicted today carry the maximum penalty of five years' imprisonment, Judge Arthur Tompkins indicated he was not considering jailing Walker. (Easttom 2010)

When he returned on bail on May 28 for pre-sentence report and repair, Judge Tompkins said pre-sentence report will cover home detention, community detention, community service and fines. The prisoner was only 18 years might be behind an organization that has stolen millions of dollars in bank accounts. His arrest was culmination of an international operation launched in June by FBI to track down cyber criminals use botnets, computer programs that infiltrate to data of others, for sending the high volume of messages receptor to block specific operating system. The charges carry the maximum penalty of 10 years in prison.Walker did not attend an exception when he appeared briefly in Thames Magistrates Court in northern New Zealand. He was released on bail. Bail conditions were not immediately available. Walker was arrested in November in northern city of Hamilton as part of an international investigation into the cyber crime network accused of infiltrating 1.3 million computers and skimming millions of dollars from victims' bank accounts.
