The Yellow Wallpaper
The Yellow Wallpaper, expresses the story of a young wife who is a threatened by madness, who seeks escape in this way that result in the systematic destruction of her personality. The actions that the protagonist are prohibited from performing, her indecision, her lack of identity, her melancholy, her disease, her aversion to certain objects, motivation and linguistic negation. This theme has an enormous complexity in the English language so it is necessary to have a profound knowledge, relieving many instances of denial as possible in order to perform significant contributions in their use and relevance, especially in the area of studies literary at its intersection with the study of grammar.
Theme
The theme of this story is the criticism of what was is called "solitary confinement", a practice believed to be positive for the patient, but did nothing but increase their anxiety and often eventually lead to suicide. Gilman tells the tragic story of a woman suffering from postpartum depression and is enclosed by prescription from her doctor husband in a room papered in yellow with the prohibition of using pen and paper, which according to him, only cause more excitement. The ominous implication is that the desire to write in a woman is abnormal, and can destroy their "natural" tendencies to domesticity and motherhood. The woman artist is, therefore, something abominable. The cure is rest and seclusion, of course, worse than the disease and mental status of the patient becomes progressively worse. In his delirium claustrophobic, the narrator has visions of a woman locked behind the yellow paper covering the wall, desperately slipping side to side, and trying to find a crack through which to escape.
