Three main attributes required to be a successful manager
Introduction
A successful manager is someone who work with and through peoples and achieve stated objectives .Obviously this achievement is done through his team of employees. First of all, let's have an overview of different management concepts and issues.
Are Manager's born or made
There is always seems to be a hot debate over the fact that whether managers are born or they are made. But the reality is that there are evidences which support both the views. One extreme advocates that the managers need qualities like charisma, communication skill, judgment and personality which are in-born and cannot be taught. So, this extreme says that managers are born not made. The other extreme advocates the idea that a manager needs qualities like management skills, work related competency, communication skills and administrative skills which can easily be taught to any individual (Bessie, Huston, 2009, pp 505). Therefore, according to this extreme managers are made not born. They believe that anyone can become a manager.
Process of management
Management revolves around five functions which are as follows:
Planning-This function set the pre-requisite to the other functions and define”what to do”.
Organizing-This function plots the plan and strategy about “How is to be done”
Staffing-Recruiting and arranging human resource to implement the plan and achieve strategic objectives.
Leading-A leader is very necessary which help all the human resource to create synergy between them .A leader would define them the path.
Controlling-This function involves measuring current performances and take corrective actions if any discrepancy is observed.
Henry Fayol has added two more dimensions to management function which are as follows:
Coordinating-A manager must ensure that all of the employees are working towards the same direction in a same manner.
Motivating-This is considered to be one of the most important function. This involves creating and maintaining a desire in the employees for the achievement of the strategic objectives.
