There have been many set of theories that have been used to define the concept of motivation and the factors that motivates an individual. In reality, an individual is motivated by external and internal factors which tend to define what an individual does, how an individual achieves, the behavior adapted, learning processes utilized and the linked reaction. Self-concept and Personality are said to identify whether an individual will be extrinsically or intrinsically motivated. It is mandatory to have a comprehension of the differences amidst the extrinsic and the intrinsic factors of motivation. Once understood, an individual has the capacity of not only motivating oneself but also the people around. It is a fact that every action or every behavior is bound to have an underlying cause and it is this identification and comprehension of the behavioral cause and factors of motivation that further leads to improvement and positive change in the outcomes.

Intrinsic Motivation

Motivation at an intrinsic level is said to be internal to an individual. When an individual is motivated intrinsically, an individual is said to learn as well as enjoy activities of skill development and courses in order to have a high level of satisfaction and at the same time an individual is said to have a high level of determination when it comes to striving and being competent. The external factors do not play a part when intrinsic motivation is said to be the premise behind the change in outcome or behavior. An example of intrinsic motivation is a pat on the shoulder by the boss or an open appreciation of the boss in front of the staff. Such motivators tend to boost the motivation and morale of the employees and results in higher effectiveness and efficiency.
