1. What are the independent and dependent variables in Figures 2, A, B, and C? How would you describe the relationship between the variables in Figures 2, A,B, and C?

The dependent variable that is used in the study is “Postnatal Age”, and the independent variables include; “Systolic Blood Pressure, Diastolic Blood Pressure and Mean Blood Pressure”. In addition, Figure 2 reflects that there is a positive relationship of postnatal age with the all three levels of blood pressures, as for infants with birth weight ( 1,000 grams showed upward trend between all the variables.

2. What are the independent and dependent variables in Figures 3, A, B, and C? How would you describe the relationship between the variables in Figures 3, A, B, and C?

For figure 3, the dependent variable that is used in the study is “Postnatal Age”, and the independent variables include; “Systolic Blood Pressure, Diastolic Blood Pressure and Mean Blood Pressure”. The article is based on the linear regression analysis which is used for modeling and analyzing several variables that can help in identifying the relationship between the dependent and the independent variables. Moreover, the figure 3 shows that there is positive relationship of postnatal age with the all three levels of blood pressures for infants with birth weight of 1,001-1,500 grams.

3. Was there a significant difference in they intercept for the lines of best fit in Figure 2 from they intercept for the lines of best fit in Figure 3? Provide a rationale for your answer.

Figure 2 reflects that in each case, the y intercept was significantly lower that is, p < 0.001, than the value for comparable lines of best fit in infants with birth weight ( 1,000 grams; which means that the values of y intercept in Figure 2 are significant in comparison to the values of y intercept in Figure 3. On the other hand, there is no significant differences in the slopes for the lines of best fit are observed in two groups of birth weight.

4. Y intercept represents the predicted value of y calculated using the equation Y intercept = a + bx. In Figure 2, the formula for SBP is Y intercept = 43.2 + 0.17x. Identify the y intercept and the slope in this formula. What does x represent in this formula?

As the predicted value Y is shown and the formula for systolic blood pressure shows ...
