Creative Process to Solve a Problem

Creative Process to Solve a Problem

Introduction

Time management is one of the most important aspects in business and in other activities. In this paper I will be discussing the creative process to solve the problem of time management.

Four Stages in the Creative Process

According to Ruggiero, (2009), “The creative process has four stages which are: searching for challenges, expressing the particular problem or issue, investigating the problem, and producing a variety of ideas” (p. 105). The first stage of the creative process is searching for challenges. During this stage of the process a person should become accustomed to the habit of constantly searching for a challenge. It is important to note that a person can be creative only in response to challenges that he or she perceives (p. 105). The second stage in the creative process is expressing the problem or issue. The objective of this process is to find the best expression of the problem that will provide the most helpful ideas. A common mistake made in this stage of the process is seeing the problem from only one perspective and therefore closing oneself off to other points of view (p. 106). The third stage in the creative thinking process is investigating the problem or issue. The objective of this stage is to obtain the necessary information to deal with the problem or issue. This can be done by searching experiences and observing them for information pertinent to the problem at hand. The fourth stage of the process is producing ideas. “The objective of this stage is to produce enough ideas to decide what action to take or what belief to embrace (Ruggiero, 2009, p. 106). Once a person has found enough ideas, the next step is to decide which idea seems to be the best in finding a solution for the problem.

Techniques used to develop curiosity

The techniques that I used to develop curiosity for a personal challenge were 1) be observant, 2) look for the imperfections in things, and 3) search for causes. The first technique used to develop curiosity for the problem is to be observant. Being observant will allow this writer to look at what excuses he or she has for this behavior. The second technique used was to look for the imperfections in things. By searching for imperfections a person can look for alternatives that can help alleviate the problem or issue, which in turn will allow him or her to realize where improvements can be made. The third technique used was to search for causes to the problem. As stated by Ruggiero, (2009), “The key to searching for causes is to be alert to any significant situation or event that cannot be explained satisfactorily” (p. 119). Being curious about the causes of the problem allows a person to understand how he or she can be the way he or she is and how he or she works.
