CHAPTER 01: METHODOLOGY

The literature review analyzed and examined in the second chapter revealed the role and importance of strategic leadership in achieving competitive advantage in the time of change. Various studies have been conducted which have claimed leadership is a critical issue which helps in designing the current and future path for any business entity. In the proposed study limited studies have been taken which pertain to specific region. The literature review has focused on the concepts of strategic leadership and how they help in achieving competitive advantage. The literature review have also emphasized on the core competencies of any business organization. The primary aim and objective of mixed methodology exploratory study is to analyze the strategic role of leadership in achieving competitive advantage at the time of change. This chapter will illustrate and demonstrate an in depth analysis of the research method and design adopted in the proposed study (Bennis & Nanus, 1985, pp 114)

This chapter of methodology will also examine the various aspects of the research design and also the specific approach of the research study. While analyzing and examining the research study, the researcher has adopted three different approaches. The chapter will further illustrate the qualitative approach, quantitative approach and the mixed methodology approach (Burns, 2002, pp 46)

Overview of qualitative and quantitative approaches

The most widely used research methods and approaches are the qualitative and quantitative research methods. The primary difference between the qualitative and quantitative research methods is based on their approach and strategy through which they identify and analyze the research problem. The other difference lies in the way they review the literature. The methods of qualitative and quantitative methods have different strategies in examining and analyzing the purpose, objective, gathering data, reporting the entire data and drawing results from the data. Many researchers have stated that quantitative involves descriptive and exploratory methods (Kanungo, 1987, pp 673)

The quantitative research methods adopts various kinds of scientific methods to investigate and analyze the research issue and problems which have been identified in the propose research study. The various scientific methods which have been utilized in the quantitative research methods will enhance the validity and the reliability of data and will also help in reducing the biasness in the research study. The qualitative method in the research study enables and helps the researcher in answering questions and also utilizes various techniques in exploring new information in a more natural environment. Moreover the quantitative research techniques help in developing a deep understanding about the various aspects of people, knowledge, perceptions and attitudes. The quantitative method mostly relies on the participation, observation and various interviews in analyzing and answering the research questions (Cohen & Manion, 1980, pp 76)

In short, from the above argument it can be stated that both the research methods of qualitative and quantitative research are quite beneficial for the research study. Both the methods help in developing a deep understanding and analyzing the research issues identified in ...
