Research Proposal: Drugs and Adolescence

Introduction

In this research proposal, we will discuss about the use of drugs among adolescents and its related trends. Drug use among adolescents is a common phenomenon that is plaguing the society and creating many societal challenges, the main reason being the psychological, behavioral, economic, and health factors associated with the use of drug among the youth, particularly the adolescents.

Adolescence is a stage in one's life where there occurs many physical and psychological changes in boys and girls; a time that follows puberty. Adolescence is an age where the young minds commit serious problems without thinking twice. It is only afterwards that they find they are in extreme trouble (Armstrong, Costello, 2002, p. 1239). Adolescents may lack an access to, conventional methods of preventing substance abuse, as they may be too embarrassed to seek information and guidance on topics like these. Drug abuse for teenagers is a challenge to the doctors who are still concerned about its growingly adverse effects not only to the parents but on the child too (Beitchman, Douglas, Wilson, Johnson, Young, Atkinson, Escobar, 1999, p. 312). Adolescence is not only a chaotic time, is also a wonderful time of discovery and experimentation with human beings who will be the adults of tomorrow, teach them to live the values ??of self-esteem, communication, respect for their dignity and that of the others, love and care for others and not themselves to take refuge in drugs (Cicchetti, Rogosch, 1999, p. 365).

Adolescent use of drug is a pressing issue in the U.K. It has led the youth towards countless disorders and problems. While they are still in the age of play and merry making, becoming addicted to drugs puts a lot of burdens on their weak shoulders. This just does not make their lives miserable but also poses threats to societal upbringing and progress. Children born of addicted adolescents, lack a decent position in the society and their lives is severely damaged. Awareness about the issue needs to be given to the youth even at early ages of their lives (Clark, Winters, 2002, p. 1223). The government and media have to play a sincere role in this regard. Within this age group the boys face different problems such as those that occur at home, at school and among friends. The most frequent are those determined by the family. Since daily contact with peers and friends, and being directly affected and involved, we are dedicated to the analysis of these problems within the family to recommend necessary actions for combating the issue (Clark, Parker, Lynch, 1999, p. 333-341). It is in adolescence, when young must learn to "choose" and take responsibility for the mistakes and successes of their choices, this is not an easy task, because it begins its unmediated social immersion and "cushion" of the family such as a child.

In the face of society, the emerging adult acquired responsibilities and burdens on that often are not ...
