Research Topic: To perform in the role of nursing educator in an associate degree-nursing program by providing an overview of the triage system, teaching clinical nursing and critical thinking skills by creating, implementing, and evaluating two triage scenarios at Veteran's Administration Medical Center

Introduction

This triage system is generally implemented by a non-professional (as an employee, a rescuer or an auxiliary). The evaluation is minimal, generally limited to the level of pain that serves to non-nurses to develop his choice within two categories: non-emergency or urgent. This choice is based on the perception of what is wrong rather than just observed the patient using standard or protocols (Gadda, Destrebecq, Bollini & Terzoni, 2009). The documentation is minimal or absent. The assessment and reassessment of the patient are impossible and the assessment of quality of the system is difficult.

The comprehensive triage is the most advanced system. The assessment and prioritization of the patients implemented by a nurse trained and recognized expertise. Sophisticated categories of Triage are used to estimate the severity of patients and follow strict standards for assessment, planning and interventions (Travers, Waller, Bowling, Flowers & Tintinalli, 2002). One use of specific protocols for early diagnostic tests, treatment and reassessment of patients. The documentation is systematic, continuous and develops together with the quality assessment system of Triage Global formalized and written in special forms. In addition to this, some health education needs patients can be bestowed directly during the process of Triage. The most recent development of the triage process is precisely the triage process into two phases useful for ready rescue with high turnout. The evaluation process is almost the same as the triage assessment but is made at different times by 2 nurses (examiner, assessor) (Lindley-Jones & Finlayson, 2000). In the first phase, the patient is examined nurse examiner who receives the patient, quickly assesses the ABC investigates health problem or the reason for access, then decide whether the patient is able to wait for the evaluation and registration administrative or whether it should be seen immediately. The second phase of the process is carried out by the nurse Professional evaluator who handles non-urgent patients waiting in the triage calling (Broadbent, Creaton, Moxham & Dwyer, 2010). At this point he completes the collection of objective and subjective data, assigns a severity code, start the necessary treatment and sends the patient or family acceptance.

The triage is a system used to select the persons involved in accidents, serious or light they are, according to classes of urgency / emergency growing, according to the severity of injuries reported or the clinical outcome (Ineke, Sturms, de Jong, Schot-Balfoort, & 2011). By extension, the technique of triage is put in place whenever you need to sort a set of users requesting a service to the appropriate operators. The method of triage is used to first arrival of all patients in the emergency room, where access to care is not based on the order of arrival but on the priority of ...
