Introduction

Life among the Lutherans presents a large variety of stories that present an excellent perspective into the relevance of religion. This paper will attempt to consider and highlight a particular story from Life among the Lutherans in order to shed light on the three Protestant Theological tenets. Essentially, the paper will identify at least one incident, phrase, or interaction in "Life Among the Lutherans" by Garrison Keillor that illustrates each of the 3 Protestant Theological tenets, describe it and its context, and why I think it is an illustration.

Discussion

I felt that the story that related the best with the three Protestant Theological tenets is the story of a family trying to amend up for the rejection of a World War I era girl who got herself in the family way. This story is a story that is an excellent presentation of the relevance of the three Protestant Theological tenets. I found that the story relates to the primacy of Scripture, particularly the New Testament. I am reminded of the perception that if it is not in Scripture, it should not be in the church; furthermore, this excludes the papacy, celibate clergy, purgatory, limbo, and other doctrines. I think that there is a need for us to understand the relevance of the three Protestant Theological tenets.

Secondly, I am reminded of the second protestant theological tenant which states that "Justification by faith alone," that is, one cannot earn salvation through marvellous works but can only have faith that God will save us (Keillor, 2009).
