Abstract

One of a growing public health concern in the United States is the issue of diabetes. Diabetes Mellitus is a collection of disease which is distinguished by an enhanced level of glucose in blood and therefore, it results in the deficiency of insulin, insulin resistance and insulin action. The individuals usually follow a strict vegetarian diet as the diet control is considered to be a corner stone of diabetes management. Therefore, the aim of this study was to examine the evidences linking low fat vegetarian diet with the prevention of Type 2 diabetes along with discussing the implications for optimal health status. There were very little amount of research study is conducted about the nutrients profile of individuals with type 2 diabetes adopting a vegan diet. For this reason an individual group with Type 2 diabetes following a vegan diet will be studied. In order to treat the diabetes the diets of vegan has been shown to be effective. So, it is essential to examine the quality of this diet, its nutrient adequacy and the relationship between the Vegetarianism and Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus. The habit of vegetarian diet is effective for the loss of weight, with a reduced cardiac risk factor and increased sensitivity of insulin. Therefore, this study is of interest for the clinicians and researchers for their use in the treatment and prevention of diabetes. The quantitative research design is selected as research methodology for this research study. For this particular research study a self-administered survey questionnaire is selected as the research instrument for this study. The descriptive research using attitudes and opinions questionnaires will enable the researcher to identify and describe the variability in different phenomena. The target population of this research study are the patients of Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus, so the convenience sampling method is used. The questionnaire survey is conducted with the patients of Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus to collect the data set on their vegetarianism diet habits.
