Research has been conducted since 1960 to ascertain the relationship between Type A personality and heart disease. Later on the cause of heart disease was linked to hostility attribute present in the Type A personality.

Whiteman et al., (1997) reviewed the research conducted on the popular association of Type A personality and its association with coronary heart disease. It was observed that the notion that the Type A personality is the sole reason for heart disease has been well researched since 1960. It was observed that among the constructs of Type A personality, hostile behavior has been the core cause of cardiovascular diseases or has been the cause of increase in risk of the same. It was reported that hostility was correlated with the cardiovascular risks such as smoking and alcoholism. Al-Asadi (2010), conducted a quantitative research on the association of Type A behavior and hypertension to add in the current research knowledge of research on the relationship between Type A and heart disease. The researcher found that hypertension was significantly associated with Type A behavior. They observed that hypertensive people significantly higher number of smokers as compared to non hypertensive people. The research concluded that the behavior therapy and counseling can significantly reduce the hypertension in Type A personality. Romero, (2010), conducted a research in the relationship of Type A personality type on the body and mind. It was observed that emotions have significant effects on the human mind and body and the way in which the type A behaviors are regulated in childhood can lead to negative emotions in life.
