Introduction

Charlie Babbitt, a young man without a heart, expect to receive a sizeable inheritance after the death of his father, who was estranged. However, someone who Charlie has not taken into account whatsoever, his older brother Raymond, held in a medical institution, gets all the luck in the will. Raymond is an "autistic" with limited mental capacity in some respects, but with genius gifts in others. Charlie kidnaps him, and during the long, and bumpy drive back to Los Angeles, both learn a lot about life. The brothers overcome mutual distrust and build a deeper relationship as they share painful memories, present problems and the possibility of a bright future together.

Discussion

Rain Man, without a doubt is one of the best films of Hollywood cinema. The movie has actors, who seemed appropriate in their respective roles. The film gained success and raved reviews along with major awards including four Oscar for Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actor (Dustin Hoffman) and best original screenplay. Dustin also won a Golden Globe award for the film. The movie is two hours long, but contains a drama with comedic moments that bring a smile. The subject of the movie is difficult, as it is a disease, but this time takes the entire significant points of autism. Furthermore, the movie is based more or less on a real person, Kim Peek, an autistic with a prodigious memory, who can recall more than 9,000 books, with an IQ of 87. The main protagonists are Tom Cruise and Dustin Hoffman in the roles of Charlie and Raymond respectively (Shull, Pp. 103).

As seen with the cast and others, it is a great movie passed into history, especially for the wonderful interpretation of Dustin, who played autistic and looked autistic due to his realistic performance. Dustin acted with perfection in terms of physical appearance, such as gait, aesthetics, and trousers above the ankle. Tom Cruise in this movie played his first serious role and showed his immense worth as a dramatic actor. Tom Cruise was young when he played the role alongside Dustin. Though, Tom was not outshined by the performance of Dustin, he was still nominated for his role in the movie. The dominant theme is the autism disease accompanied by all that entails (Metz, Pp. 163).
