How Does Patriarchal Power Manifest Itself In The Family And In The Larger Society And What Are Its Effects Upon The Women, Men, Boys And Girls In 'Palace Walk'?

Palace Walk is the first of Mahfouz's Cairo Trilogy, a sequence that spans Egypt's twentieth century. Throughout he continues rather aloof, even inscrutable. He accepts as factual in firm lesson uprightness, unwavering esteem and obedience and substantially abhors any try to dispute his place as the head of the house either from his children, daughters, or wife.

Consequently, he is firm, stern, firm and irascible. Amina's connection with Ahmad is a subservient one where she has to acquiesce with anything he states and has to believe over dialogues some times before close to him as Ahmad considers women's mind as not completely formed. And except he is intoxicated he barely retains dialogue with Amina and bears no man to mention his daughters' titles on his lips or glimpse them before wedding ceremony proposals.

By compare, we glimpse much through the eyes of Amina, Ahmad's long-suffering wife, who seems to endure her husband's nightly excesses without either inquiry or judgment. She even actions individually, just one time, and is made to yield for it. There are two daughters, Khadija and Aisha. Khadija, the elder, has regrettably inherited her father's looks. The children are very distinct individual characteristics, but possibly they each brandish distinct facets of their father.
