Classroom Visitation

The first part talks about reflection about the experience of classroom visitation of veteran and novice teachers.

Primary Difference in the Instructional Behavior

There are scores of difference that were observed in the instructional behavior of a novice teacher and a veteran teacher. The most important difference that was observed was related to the responding to the need of the students. There is no doubt that both the teachers were successful in recognizing the needs of different students but what distinct a veteran teacher from a novice is the way in which they both respond to the needs of diverse students (Westerman, 2010). I found novice teacher less responsive and in dubious state when they were presented with diverse needs of different students whereas, I found a veteran teacher highly responsive to the variegated needs of different students.

Quality of Instructional Practice that can be predicted from their Behavior

Behavior of teacher is one of the aspects that presents the true reflection of the instructional practice (Richards & Crookes, 2008). From the behavior of the novice teacher and a veteran teacher I can posit that the quality of the instructional practice of both the teachers were good and effective. There was only a small thing that was different in both the teachers that one thing was of strength. The behavior of veteran teacher can be described as more strong than the novice teacher this is may be because of the experience.

Teaching Techniques Used By Them to Accommodate the Diversity of the Student Body

The most intriguing and surprising thing that I came to now through this experience of class visitation is that novice teachers were more skilled in dealing with the issue of diversity. A number of techniques have been observed that were implied by the novice teachers. These techniques include following:

Using unbiased on the spot and during the classroom praise and appreciation

Using equal and performance based marking and evaluation system

Not encouraging students to pass comments on each other

Possessing clear image and opinion about the personal identity

From the above techniques and discussion it can be said that veteran teachers are still stuck in old teaching methods. With the passage of time the issue of diversity has growth to a greater extent and so the interventions that are used to deal with this issues has also changed. It is this reason because of which Veteran teachers are unaware of latest and newfangled techniques (Nunan, 2006).

Supervision for Instructional Improvement

This part presents the reflection about the interviews that were conducted from the various entities.

Responses of Interviewees

The interview was conducted from teachers and the administrator. In the interview, two questions were asked. The responses of the teacher and administrator are as follows:

The gist of the first question was to extract information related to sharing the knowledge and methods of teaching with others. The response of teacher was positive. The teacher was willing to share the techniques and innovative methods of teaching that she applied in ...
