The Relationship between US militarism Abroad and Domestic Politics
The Relationship between US militarism abroad and Domestic Politics
Introduction
In order to understand the relationship between the two different aspects of any entity it is imperative to understand the entity itself. Taking this thought in mind, let us evaluate the characteristics and a little history of the great country known as the U.S.A.
United States of America or U.S.A is the biggest superpower in existence of modern world. U.S or Uncle Sam as it is now referred to, has succeeded in climbing to the top of the world's standard in lifestyle, culture and military might. Christopher Columbus's eventful arrival on the shores of North America was a fateful event which changed the course of the history as it were. From the start, history gives evidence that the Americans behaved like any other foreign country would on arriving on unfamiliar territories. They sought to establish a firm a grasp on 'their' territory. Working with this ideology in mind, the Americans bulldozed and razed the 'Native American', or Red Indians completely and made it so that the future generations actually believe the fact that America belonged to the gun-slinging, swaggering, cow punching American cowboys and the Indians were just a pestilence that had arrived from nowhere into 'their' lands. So it would seem that Uncle Sam from their time of birth were fond of flexing their muscles when they needed something. Their policy resembled the doings of a bully, who when desired something which someone else possessed, would make use of superior strength and bulk and forcefully snatch it from them. Aside from this, it would play smartly and make it so that everybody would believe the bully to be the victim and vice versa. A successful marriage between the two has led Uncle Sam to the position of power which he enjoys now. (Richard E. Hartwig, 2008. pp. 87-105)
Discussion
Jumping a few millennia into the future, we see the American policy or government behaving exactly in the same way as it did back then. The advent of the 21st century, aside from bringing with itself a plethora of technological advancements, also brought the ill-welcomed recession with it. Countries around the world suffered greatly as Dollar, Euro, Pound sterling, Franc, Yen, Riyal, Rupee, and Dirham, any and all manners of currencies plummeted. Countries were hit hard by this plague and even today, they are either still suffering from it or are shakily trying to back on their feet. Added to the increasing worldwide depletion of mineral deposits and other natural resources, the world seems to be coming quickly under crisis. 3rd world countries keep falling lower and lower while the stronger countries are trying to stand on their shoulders.
