Perseverance - Whose Responsibility Is It?

The proposition

The Christian community is divided into two groups when it comes to perseverance in Christian life. The purpose of perseverance in Christianity is to teach the followers the need to remain steadfast and never quit amid the difficulties that may come their way. Perseverance is the display of brevity and courage of a person for only the courageous have it in them to stand against all odds. They believe in themselves and they never give up. Christianity, as a religion, is full of examples of perseverance. It would not be wrong to state that the Christian life is nothing but an embodiment of faith and virtue displayed through different means such as steadfastness and endurance.

It is said in Christianity that those who endure till the end are always saved by the Lord. However, there are times when the trying situations faced by a person are so difficult that the person cannot be expected to remain persevere. In addition, a man has many emotions instilled in him naturally. Belief and disbelief, perseverance and vacillation are all there, it is just a matter of time that one characteristic may shine and the other may subside based on the situation at hand. So, is this perseverance that is expected of a person an act of a person or an act of god?

The arguments for the proposition

Perseverance is an act of human. God created the human kind for the mere purpose of serving the other humans. This is so because if the purpose behind the creation of man was only to have some to pray and praise the Lord, then there are tens and thousands of angels who are dedicated for the same purpose and who praise. Man is expected to instill in him the qualities of the Creator.

There are three worlds. There is one which is marked by bliss and comfort only - The Heaven. There is another which is only marked by pain and trauma - The Hell and there is a third one which contains both. This is the world we live in. it is impossible that a person will never be inflicted upon pain in this world. In fact, it is the most virtuous who get tried the most. The example of Jesus Christ is before us all. The act of perseverance shows the belief that a man has on the Lord (Praise Garden, 2008). It shows that the man trusts that the Lord will never abandon or fail him. People who give up do so because they fail to believe in the Creator's benevolence. They fail to remember that tomorrow will be better than today and that it is the darkest hour before dawn. Hence, perseverance is a matter of belief and is certain an act of man. It is his responsibility to keep him away from the clutches of hopelessness.
