Mrs. A, a 75-year-old female who lives alone has a history of arthritis, cataracts and coronary artery disease. Her apartment is located on the second floor of an apartment building. She has no family in the area, she does not drive. How would you describe Mrs. A's characteristics in terms of resiliency and vulnerability. What could you do to improve her status?

Mrs. A's condition indicates her incapacity to move on her own because of the inflamed joints she has due to her arthritis condition. This immobility further increases her risk to call for help in an emergency condition which she might have any time due to her coronary artery disease. Because her joints will only partially function, there is an increased risk she might get slipped moving down stairs of her apartment, given that her cataract makes her vision blurred and cloudy. This would worsen her arthritis condition and might even result in surgical emergency or death. This would be even more serious if she has cataract in both of the eyes. And because Coronary Artery Disease is a serious cause of death, and given a weak immune status of Mrs. A as her age indicates, she is nevertheless at the highest risk of sudden death due to a fatal disturbance of the heart rhythm. The risk factors such as unavailability of family in her locality, her weak vision because of cataract, old age, and joint pain all call for nursing care of the highest quality for Mrs. A. 2. Mr. P, a 43-year-old male is admitted to the unit with a diagnosis of acute bacterial endocarditis. He is homeless, works as a dishwasher at a local restaurant and has no insurance. He has a PICC line inserted for antibiotic administration. He will need follow-up care after discharge, but can't obtain home health care since he is homeless. How would you describe the patient characteristics in terms of levels resource availability and participation in care? What could you do to improve his status?
