My Personal Journey - Understanding of Religion

Introduction

The basic principle of Religion is that it is a collection of traditions, which are designed to guide the social development of a particular group of people within the respective society. The most significant aspect of religion is that it symbolizes the ultimate hope that when someone dies, the universe will provide a spiritual accommodation for their soul. In the field of religions and beliefs, many fruitful future research areas can be found.

My life is spent mostly attending several different Seventh Day Adventists churches when I am not working on the Sabbath. In this paper, I will extend my experiences and understanding of religious belief and accentuate how it helps me understand different perspectives of life. The quote best explains my journey and vision of life.

Part I

I am Vicky Montalvo. I am a mother, wife, aunt, sister, friend, and a practicing Seventh Day Adventist. I attend several different Seventh Day Adventists churches when I am not working on the Sabbath. I try to spend my life according to the scriptures and practice the Ten Commandments. I am currently pursuing my associates of science degree to qualify a nursing program. This course meets my humanities and Gordon Nile requirement. This class will help me learn more about mine and other religions; it will guide me to extend my knowledge to the history and evolution of religions and how other religions apply to the scriptures.

I am fortunate to be as raised as a Seventh Day Adventist in a family that routinely went to church. Due to such nurturance, I have raised my son as a Seventh Day Adventist fostered him as per the guidelines and scriptures laid by Christian teachings. At present, I attend different churches on Sabbath days when I am off from the work. Seventh Day Adventists believe the Sabbath starts at sundown on Friday and extends through sundown on Saturday, which is in accordance with the Jewish Custom of keeping the seventh day holy. I believe that the Sabbath is sacred. Worship Services begin with Sabbath School, using the Sabbath School Quarterly; it is a publication issued by the General conference of seventh day Adventists. The worship service consists of music, a Bible-based sermon, and prayers. Worshipers sing along with the choir. Seventh Day Adventists believe that the later Christian custom of moving the Sabbath to Sunday, to celebrate the day of Christ's resurrection, is unbiblical. I also attend some other churches since they seem more concerned about non-biblical issues. My first language is Spanish and I attend both English and Spanish services in different Seventh Day Adventist churches in Marion County.
