Medicare Reform Act

Introduction

The Medicare program is targeted towards the citizens of the United States and it helps people to get them insured so that they do not have to face any difficulty when they are sick or when they need medical assistance. Despite of the benefits provided by the government in form of this program, the citizens have to face a lot of difficulties in getting medical assistance. Insurance of Health is an incentive mostly attached to the job of many Americans, or it comes as a result of the programs by the government such as Medicaid and Medicare but still many of the citizens of the US are deprived of insurance mainly because the insurance system is employee based. This means that the employee himself has to contribute for his insurance from his salary. Employees cannot afford the insurance costs and therefore, do not visit the doctors regularly or even when they are suffering from any illness.

Discussion

The Medicare reform act was introduced by the current President of the United States, Barack Obama in 2010. He introduced a change in the program and according to this change now more and more people are insured and do not have the same difficulty of not being treated properly (Kronenfeld, 2002). Though, it is the responsibility of the companies to ensure that they provide health insurance to their employees, there are a number of companies who do not provide it to its people. It is the responsibility of the companies to make sure that their employees get the required medical assistance, but they are unable to do so because they say that the cost of getting each employee insured is very high.

According to this reform, people who make up the federal poverty level are also eligible for insurance. This reform provides incentives to the businesses for making sure that they provide incentives to their employees and also in ensuring that they get the required medical insurance. It also prohibits insurers from imposing caps on the insured amount for people and provides support for the medical research. This reform has been proposed by the President, but has still not been officially introduced in the system because it is still controversial. The reform has to be approved by the Congress, which is why, it is still pending.
