Maimonides Neonatal Intensive Care Unit Should Only Use Breast Milk for All Premature Babies between 32 weeks Gestation and under

Abstract

The aim of this research proposal is to increase the awareness about the reasons that Maimonides neonatal intensive care unit should only be using breast milk for entire premature babies that are born between thirty two weeks gestation and under. How does it help in healing the babies and protecting them from different problems? Maimonides Neonatal Intensive Care Unit Should Only Use Breast Milk for All Premature Babies between 32 weeks Gestation and under

Introduction

This paper is focusing on the importance of breast milk for the premature babies within the neonatal intensive care unit because breast milk is known to be very helpful for the normal babies or the premature ones. But it has been observed that the problem arises because of the fact that the babies that are born lesser than thirty seven weeks inside the womb hold diverse nutritional needs compared to the babies with the full term delivery. However, within the hospital growing and feeding is the most significant task for the smaller babies that will help them grow fast and become a normal developed baby. It is very necessary for the premature baby to be capable of reaching the actual weight that they should have gained inside the womb of the mother.

However, one of the significant task involved in this is convincing the mothers in breastfeeding because most of them are not willing, they need to realize the importance of breast milk for their babies growth and development but this varies depending on different ethnic and racial backgrounds or the socioeconomic status. They need to learn various ways of expressing breast milk and helping the premature babies in encouraging them to feed on breast milk including the maintenance of the mothers who have just delivered a premature baby who needs help in developing and growing where the breast milk is the only recommended action here.

Literature Review

This paper is significantly focused on helping the premature babies born under 32 weeks with the breast milk who are in neonatal intensive care, which can be observed that it is the most helpful thing a baby can receive for growing and feeding. These premature babies are kept within the “neonatal intensive care unit” so that they can be cautiously monitored for making sure the babies are achieving the accurate balance of minerals, fluids like potassium (electrolytes), including the nutrition that their body's require for maturing.

According to the study and medical records the researchers have been capable of evaluating the rate of breastfeeding in the United States within the neonatal intensive care unit and its impacts on the babies. So by observing the records of the Boston Medical Center it showed the rate of surviving infants, all these babies were breast fed within the first week. The initiation of the neonatal intensive care unit regarding the rate of breastfeeding increased from 34.6 percent to 74.4 percent from 1995 to ...
