Maimonides Neonatal Intensive Care Unit Should Only Use Breast Milk for All Premature Babies between 32 weeks Gestation and under
Introduction
Maimonides Neonatal Intensive Care Unit is a prenatal center which has aimed at providing exceptional care while maternity, delivery and neonatal care. Neonatal care units are necessary in providing quality care to premature babies who require additional care and attention, babies born before 34 weeks might have difficulties in breathing, feeding and keeping themselves warm (MMC, 2012). Premature babies also have a tendency of having infections, some premature babies also have jaundice, which makes it all the most necessary to provide optimal care in order to help the babies recover and ultimately start growing on their own. Dr. Newman (2009) specifies that importance of providing premature babies born between 32 weeks require breast milk a great deal more than healthy babies the reason being the fact that a mother's milk contains the additional nutrients premature babies need and also strengthens the babies immunity system and reduces chances of developing any further infections. Shannon (2009) clearly states that premature babies who are provided extra care tend to grow up leading normal lives; gradually they begin growing like normal children as well, though the fact remains undeniable that premature children do require additional professional care.
One major factor has been identified due to which premature babies often to not receive enough breast milk, which hinders their health and slows their growth and development. Mother's often do not have breast milk at the time of giving birth and eventually they give up trying, neither do healthcare organizations stress over the necessity of mothers feeding their children. Another recognized factor due to which these premature babies do not receive enough breast milk is because these children are kept in a special neonatal ward, similar to the one at Maimonides Care Unit. Since parents are not allowed to visit the child frequent mothers tend to subside breast feeding. Premature babies are weak and lack the strength needed to drink milk from their mother's also becomes a huge factor to why mothers eventually stop trying to feed them their milk (NHS, 2012).
This study aims at highlighting the necessity of providing premature babies with breast milk and stresses the fact that Maimonides Neonatal Intensive Care Unit needs to ensure the use of breast milk for all premature babies between 32 weeks gestation and under. Failure in doing so can harm the child and leave lifelong ailments, or can drastically reduce proper growth and development.
CHAPTER 3: METHODOLOGY
Research is the core element of conducting a study; it ensures that a systematic approach is maintained why gaining insight regarding any particular topic. It is necessary for any researcher to design a specific research methodology for the problem under study. Choosing an appropriate methodology can ascertain that the study being conducted is beneficial and provides the reader insight and helps identify elements which can aid ...
