Abstract

In this research we try to explore the notion of stress in a holistic context. The main focus of the research is on the diseases which are caused by stress and its effects on human health. The research also analyzes many aspects of the worries and problems of stress patients tries to gauge its effect on the lives of these people. Finally the research describes various factors which are responsible for the stressful lifestyle of the patients and tries to describe the overall effect of the lifestyles on of their health, which leads to stress related diseases.

Background of the study

Stress is one of the growing problems faced by people the world over. According to statistics, the most widely purchased medicine across the globe are anti-depressants which people consume on a daily basis to overcome stress and various other diseases which are caused by stress. According to various medical researches, it is revealed that stress leads to many diseases like that of heart diseases, anxiety attacks, psychological distress, chronic fatigue, high blood pressure, eating disorders, mood swings, poor immune function, migraine, depression, sleep problems, peptic ulcers, smoking-related respiratory aliments, headaches, chronic pain, colds flu and viruses and alcoholism. Scientists have observed that there is an apparent immediate link between stress and related diseases.

Some approximations say that about 40 - 80% of all patients visiting a doctor have stress-related problems. In view of this, studies have also revealed that a person's lifestyle has a considerable effect on the lives of people (Bedi 2000, 1-22)
