Leadership Profile: Nursing Director of Ministry of Health, Jeddah Branch
Introduction to the Leader
In my opinion, the person who is the best choice for leadership profiling is Mrs. Iman Baduknis, the Director of Nursing of the Ministry of Health Jeddah Branch. Through observation while working with her I was able to see that she because of her distinct personality represents the new era of Saudi nurses. She is among the elite few who are beginning to have important front-line positions in the health field in Saudi Arabia, which were previously dominated by men.
Being a goal oriented lady, she believes that change happens step-by-step and is using this strategy to reach her goals to have a better nursing environment, and promote work satisfaction Saudi nurses. She believes that the healthcare system is built on nursing and that nurses play a vital partnering role with doctors and other medical professionals. She as the Nursing Director of Ministry of Health for Jeddah branch plans on improving and developing Saudi nurse's skills and knowledge, especially for those who graduated with only a diploma Algorushah Y. (2010a).
Leadership Style and Characteristics
The leadership style exhibited by Mrs. Badukn's is transforming leadership that focuses on creating a positive change in the followers and the social system, which is apparent in her always building relationships and continuously communicating with her employees. She is a charismatic person and a charismatic-leader, creating an aura of Magnetism around herself, and using her transformational nature to work for the betterment and acknowledgement of the hard work that nurses do while trying to enhance the quality of the nursing services. According to research, and what is clearly apparent to me, and many of the people working with her, her style of leadership (Charismatic and Transformational) style can have some extremely positive effects on employee outcomes (Campbell, et.al, 2008).
A very important ability that Mrs. Badukn possesses is her ability to look at the bigger picture, and understanding of the environment that affects nursing in Saudi Arabia. Even though, her Master's degree is from the US, she is very selective to what suit nursing in the country; which I and many of the people working with her think is very important, because it is vital of leaders to know their environment in order to be able to promote change.
