Introduction

The human brain consists of two bilaterally symmetrical parts which are called cerebral Hemispheres. These two parts interconnected with the complex networking of neurons and neurotransmitters which generate stimuli. These parts are responsible for all the vital functions of human beings which are mostly related with the behavioural responses. Each part has its own function to perform, for case in point, left hemisphere is involved in controlling verbal communication or speech; however, the right hemisphere controls visual interpretations, but it does not mean that only one part is solely responsible for a particular function.

The left hemisphere is responsible for speech recognition, but even then it required right hemisphere for its proper understanding. This lateralization or functional specialization of cerebral hemispheres also plays an important role in the control of fronto-limbic regions. This is commonly termed as the handedness, because it is associated with the functions of hands and some people work comfortably with right hands. Moreover, the lateralization of these hemispheres played an important role in defining the handedness which also emphasizes on the importance of lateralization of the hemispheres in linguistic function and its interaction with other functions like handedness, bilingualism, speech ability and its impact and effect on the performance if interrupted by another function. In this context, to prove the concept associated with the lateralization of cerebral Hemispheres, verbal and linguistic ability and its effect on the handedness, there are various researches and lab tests have been performed to understand these functions.

Discussion

Following part of study focuses on researches and experiments which have been conducted by past researchers to analyse the relation between these functions that include handedness, lateralized and general effect of verbalization, effect of gender and modality and effects of verbal and musical task on unimanual skill.

Handedness

Oldfield (1970) provided complete detailed research on the concept of handedness which also focuses on various cultural, social, economic and gender differences. In the study, the performance of participants was properly noted and provided it is important that the functions must not be affected during the task and if the performance is not good, it will be marked negative. The research is also based on behavioural study, the performance of handedness, cultural, social, economic and gender differences and its effect while using different hands. In the research, copies of inventories were sent to different departments of psychology to understand this concept. The result proved that most of the participants were good at using right hand and when they were brought to test quantitatively, it proved the fact that most people are comfortable with their right hand.

Lateralized and General Effect of Verbalization

Kinsbourne and Cook (1971) performed experiments to look for the general and lateral effects of verbal communication during the performance of a unimanual skill. This requires balancing the rod on the index finger of right and left hand one by one along with the task of speaking and remaining silent alternatively while balancing with each hand. During this experiment they observed the change in performance ...
