Introduction

Giuseppe Paolo DiMaggio, better known under the name of Joe DiMaggio, was born on 25th November 1914 in Martinez, California and died on 8th March 1999 in Hollywood, Florida. He was an American baseball player of Italian origin. DiMaggio was born to Sicilian parents; he was the brother of Vince DiMaggio and Dom who were also two players in Major League. He was nicknamed "Joltin 'Joe". DiMaggio is the only player in baseball history who, in every season in which he participated, was selected to the tournament All-Stars. He was a very famous and outstanding baseball player who influenced many fans and avid players. He is still influential among many baseball players and numerous are still his fans.

Background

DiMaggio debuted for the New York Yankees on May 3, 1936 and during this match was his first season hit, with 29 circuits 323. He led the Yankees to World Series with other stars such as Tony Lazzeri, and Lou Gehrig. During his first four seasons, the Yankees won four World Series in a row and nine others during his 13 seasons. In 1941, he lined up 56 games with at least one hit, the highest total in Major League. At the end of the season in 1942, he got enlisted in United States Army Air Forces to participate in World War II (Charyn, 2011). Di Maggio entered the service of the U.S. Air Force in 1943 as a sergeant. He served in Atlantic City, in Hawaii and in Santa Ana. He workered as a physical education instructor in New Jersey. In 1945, he got demobilized. In 1955, Joe DiMaggio got selected in the National Baseball Hall of Fame.
