Introduction

Canada is a land of opportunity and has welcomed people from all over the world to improve their life styles, living standards and financial status. However, no other country has been so favorable location for refugees to setup a permanent base as Canada has been.

This welcoming gesture of the country and freedom of living in your own way has brought a large amount of immigrants from all over the world. This rapid incoming of the immigrants has not only been a security issue to the people of Canada but is also a major social concern as it has brought the society of Canada and its culture to danger with constant interference from different ethnic groups (Root, 1992).

Background

History

Since the late 16th century and early 17th century Canada has been witnessed as the best land for emigration by the Europeans. The early immigrants to the lands of Canada included refugees from Italy, Germany, Netherlands, Britain and France. The eastern section from where the refugees migrated towards Canada was mainly the African zone and they were those refugees who were punished by the European colonists in their respective countries.

During the mid of nineteenth century the Canadian society had been established as one of its own types which included civilizations from all around the world and had gel around to form a society of their own which was the Canadian civilization. This civilization was a mix breed of multiple ethnic societies and races.

In the early nineteenth century the reasons of emigration to Canada had changed as people from all over the world which were from, the Asian, European and African sects came to Canada for education and better living standards. The latter half of the nineteenth century has been dominated by the immigrants from countries of Asia which include Indonesia, Malaysia, India, Pakistan and Bangladesh (Shipler, 2004).

Initially when the Africans and Europeans entered the land of Canada, it was a very low population area and the kind of change they brought to the culture wasn't much harmful. Especially when considering the emigrants from the European they possess a similar culture to that of the white Canadians.

Secondly, the European immigrants had arrived so early in the land of Canada that it did not mattered to which community they belonged and they became a contributor in the culture of Canada.

However, in the last 19th century when the Asians started invading the land of Canada for the sake of job and education they belonged to a total different set of culture and modified the true culture of Canada (Moore & Fisher, 1999).

In this day many Asians have formed communities in various states of Canada and they are not only preserving their culture but their presence is modifying the true culture of Canada.
