After the terrorist attacks of 9/11, the American government has devised various strategies in order to combat terrorist attacks and other hazardous incidents. Therefore, the American government formed a department of homeland security. Homeland security is a term which is responsible for the protection of the entire state from all kinds of terrorist activities. It helps the government to prevent from the terrorist attacks and to minimize the damage that has occurred due to the attacks.

The homeland security department of the United States is basically about adopting adequate measures to keep united states a safe and protective place. They also devise laws and regulations at all local, state and federal levels, which are to be implemented to ensure a safe and peaceful place. The homeland security is based on seven things which are discussed below

Terrorism

The homeland security works together with all the law enforcement agencies and the citizens of United States to prevent terrorist attacks within the United States. They try to eliminate the damage and make efforts to recover from these attacks. (Bullock, Haddow &  Coppola, 2012)

All hazards

The homeland security department of United States is responsible to protect the citizens and individuals from manmade and natural hazards and to devise various policies that will help them to eliminate such hazards from the society.

Terrorism and Catastrophes

The homeland security is supported by the other federal and state agencies which protects and respond to atrophic events and try to prevent the country to be affected by such events.

Jurisdictional hazards

Homeland security is also responsible to introduce laws and regulations in each jurisdiction and in all law enforcement agencies that will help the government to prepare for such incidents that are likely to threaten the safety and security of its people.

Meta hazards

The homeland security also assists in preventing and mitigating all kinds of social threat that can affect the long term political and economic stability of the people and the nation.

National security

The homeland security is a kind of national security that works with all other various instruments to protect the sovereignty, territory and the infrastructure of the United States.
