ABSTRACT

The research aims on analysing the growth opportunities of foreign worker in UK-based companies. For this, the research explored the concept of performance appraisal, compensation and rewards, growth and performance appraisals. The research identified that geographical mobility has insufficient awareness of the institutions on the role that immigration plays for growth and competitiveness of the destination countries such as UK. Non-European harmonization of regulations across different countries immigration and labour is consequent need to formulate policies and common practice in Europe. It is the presence of inconsistent legislation that often does not respond adequately to requirements of the European labour market and that is at odds with the need recruitment of foreign staff felt by businesses. Main purpose for this research was to identify the factors which are the basis of growth opportunities for foreign workers in UK based firms. Through extensive secondary research method, the study analysed that UK firms prefer foreign workers specifically due to their skills and knowledge about the particular fields.

Background of the Research

In the opinion of Goodale (2001, p. 70) experts have advocated very strong views of possible growth opportunities as possibly the most essential facet of life in UK based organisations. Unfavourably, it has been proclaimed by experts regarding the value of growth opportunities suggesting that the process of performance appraisals could be so intrinsically faulty that it might become unimaginable to correct the mistakes in it.

In theoretical terms, Goodale had believed that growth opportunities for foreigners are involving OJT (On the Job) training and assessment would unavoidably be underlined by humanistic dynamics. Consequently, this approach could be tried out, navigated, conceived, and substituted by some other approach. Nevertheless, it would inevitably be a mixture of subjective reactions and judgments, flashbacks, emotions to experiences that could dispel or reinforce, and all anxieties and expectations, which usually figure the session of appraisal itself.
