Introduction

Gears represent a machine element for transmitting the motion between rotating shafts. In order to achieve positive drive and sustaining exact velocity, toothed gears are used. While the motion transmitted to mating gears is kinetically equivalent to that of rolling surfaces identical with the gear pitch surfaces, the action of one gear tooth on another is generally a combination of rolling and sliding motion (Radzevich, 2010). When the distance between shafts is large, other methods of transmission are used.
