Introduction

A first person first peoples is the compilation of experiences of the Native Americans presented by Andrew Garrod and Colleen Larrimore. These are the short stories of Native American graduates from the Dartmouth College. This great compilation of thirteen students' story tells about the experiences of each student before entering the college, during their transition there and the time when they graduated. Each of them shared authentic, inspirational, impressive, intimidating and diverse experiences. This compilation of experiences is all about how students found their way from their transition from home till the college and what issues did they experience during that time period whether the obstacles or the aided one.

The book first person first peoples is a successful compilation of students accumulated by the editors Andrew Garrod and Colleen Larimore. They successfully and deferentially provided the personally experienced stories of thirteen Native American students who graduated from the Dartmouth College. The history of the Dartmouth College was that it was founded in 1769, and since then it only graduated nineteen Native American in the history of about two hundred years. It was founded with the mission to educate only Indian students. The Native American students faced the hard time during their tenure in the college. According to them, it guided them how to walk this path while keeping the balance without losing oneself during the whole process. This represents their intricate journey during their study. The students who presented their views in the first person first people discussed the racial prejudice they encountered during the college life from both the students and the college faculty. Stereotyping was the common problem faced by the Native American in the academy by the baseball coach who wanted to keep him away from the fraternity basements due to alcoholism. Another incident discussed by a native American when they encountered the inhuman behavior by her peers who wrote the words Indian Bitch on her door and brutally told her that America has lowered the standard for you people that are why you are here. All of the thirteen students belonged to the different tribes of America such as Native Hawaiian, Sioux, Navajo etc. this book is about how each student struggled through their academic life in terms of socially, emotionally, and culturally.
