Introduction

The world is moving ahead and a lot of technological advances are taken place. In this technological updated world every field and area is getting new technologies and updated methodologies and work processes. The field of media and entertainment is also getting technological advanced and modern. As a result of these technological advancements on one hand different versions and formats of movies are introduced such as animated movies as well as 3D movies. On the other hand, in order to capture the attention of the audience and to increase the sales and viewership of the movie the marketers are adopting new and innovative marketing techniques to promote these movies. The aim and objective of this paper is to talk about the marketing campaign and promotional strategies of a movie. The movie that is selected for this purpose is Puss in Boots. This paper also discusses five marketing messages. The five factors that are considered in this paper are format of the movie, marketing of sequels, the genre of the movie, the usage of the celebrity voiceovers and marketing by promoting characters.

About the Movie

From the house of the DreamWorks studio Puss in Boots is a computer based animated movie that was released last quarter of the last year. The movie was directed by Chris Miller who is also the director of the Shrek the Third that was released in 2007. The executive producer of the film is Guillermo Del Toro. The screenplay of the film is done by Tom Wheeler whereas the story is written by Brian Lynch. The cast of the movie comprises of Amy Sedaris, Antonio Banderas, Billy Bob Thornton, Salma Hykes and Zach Galifianakis. The release date of the film is October 28, 2011. The film was released in the format of Digital 3D as well as IMAX 3D (DreamWorks Animation 2009, A-1).

Story of the Movie

The film deals with the adventures of Puss in Boots. Together with Humpty Dumpty and Kitty the cat tries to steal the famous goose that lays golden eggs. Puss in Boots in search of adventure experiences in a bar by the magic beans that can grow a vine into the sky a treasure. However, these beans are in the confinement of Jack and Jill, a nasty rogue couple, and are strictly guarded.

In order to make himself a wanted fugitive it was imperative for the Puss to make himself clear from all the charges before meeting Shrek and Donkey. In the attempt of stealing magic beans from the infamous criminals Jack and Jill along with his female friend Kitty Softpaws, Puss crosses difficult paths. It was Kitty Softpaws that leads the Puss to his old friend who is now the enemy Humpty Dumpty. Reminiscences of friendship and betrayal play their part in influencing the doubts of Puss, but eventually, Puss decides to help the egg get the magic beans.
