Introduction

It is a general concept all over the world to have separate system for keeping male and female prisoners. There are various reasons for it, the main reason being the different sex and to avoid any kind of sexual abuse and especially to provide safety for the female prisoners. It is the most important concern for the law enforcement agencies to avoid any such kind of mishap within the walls of the prison. The research and survey to these prisons showed that these women are not secure and protected in the prison and face various difficulties and even sexual abuse from their Inmates or the guards. It has become a major problem for the female prisoners to face all these sexual abuses and other physical tortures. This is also very common in America, the sexual exploitation of female prisoners in the prison and the sexual harassment they face during their imprisonment. It is thus required proper attention towards this concern. There are various women who are forced into the sexual relation and other unwanted sexual contact like, strip searches and other illegal and unethical activities. Some women being lonely try this sex as the best means to escape their troubles. These women mostly face this problem not only from the male and female wardens but also from their inmate, female prisoners. This problem mostly occurs where people are confined in a same prison or in hospital.

Discussion

The main concern for my research is to understand the issues of these female inmates and sexual abuse to them that most of these women encountered before and after becoming an inmate. There are various researches conducted in this area but even then this is not very common as compare to male and other systems, where rape and sexual exploitation is considered as more common phenomenon. Study of previously conducted researches shows that these researches are insufficient to provide the attention towards this issue.

Literature Review

For final literature review for applied social research class, my topic is on female inmates and sexual abuse before and after becoming an inmate and I will discuss this with the help of previous research literature available on this topic. It is one of the most important social concerns that need to be discussed. This requires proper consideration to be resolves there is also requirement for the ways which can be helpful for these researches. According to Johnson and Johnson (2002), reported that most of the females in the prison are aggressed sexually by their female inmate prisoners and by prison staff. Johnson and Johnson provide complete detail about the issues involved in this sexual aggression and complete detail of the ways that are usually followed by these people from genital touching to rape.
