Introduction

This paper intends to define a current ethical issue related to the industry of Information Technology. A decision making approach will be applied in order to evaluate different alternatives and then reaching a conclusion.

Problem Statement

Privacy and confidentiality is the most common problem related to the industry of information technology. Personal data privacy regulations in most of the countries are not well developed and implemented. Internet users worldwide are being harmed in terms of getting their private things being public.

Discussion

Debates on privacy related issues are on-going since the evolution of information technology and internet. There are several incidences which even prove that using internet is not safe in terms of privacy and confidentiality. Examples may include the pornography videos and morphed pictures of girls being circulated over the internet. Browsers like internet explorer record your activities in history information. Cookies placed by websites gather information about you and your surfing around and then companies take advantage of your information that is being stored in databases (Shultz, 2006).

Identification of Alternatives

The first important alternative to the privacy related issue is to use the internet as less as possible. Second alternative is to develop personal data privacy regulation in such a way that privacy and confidentiality must be ensured. The third alternative is to make your computer settings in such a way that it does not allow such material to be accessed which is going against person's privacy and confidentiality.

Evaluate and Choose Alternatives

The first alternative provided supports the less usage of internet. Internet must be used for gaining purposes like knowledge and information, not to be used for unnecessary stuff like using social websites more than the need.
