Thesis Statement

“Prejudice and discrimination destroys the societal, political, cultural and economic life of a country”.

Introduction

The prohibition of members of one group from opportunities that are offered to other group is known as Discrimination. Many moral philosophers have defined discrimination as harmful treatment for the society. The word “Discrimination” is derived from Latin, which means “to differentiate, to separate”. Discrimination can be of many types, but the main theme will remain same, which is to have inequality in care level to each person associated in a group. Discriminatory laws are present in many countries around the globe, but still the level of discrimination on many grounds is high. It is stated that discrimination can be of three types: Realistic Competition, Social Competition and Consensual discrimination. The duties and reposnsibilities of the radiographer is of great importance in maintaining equality in the health care services in the societal level.

Discussion

Human rights are common for all human beings regardless of age, gender, disability, ethnic origin, race, marital status, economic status, lifestyle, sexual orientation, religion, beliefs. Discrimination is a very serious breach of a person's rights. It can vary from insult to physical brutality. The removal of discrimination should be made from all the grounds in order to have fairness in our laws.

Patients come to the hospital from a wide range of diversities of gender, age, disability, ethnicity, religion, marital status, economic status, lifestyle and sexual orientation. They visit to the hospital for seeking treatment and solving health related to problem. The mission of the radiographers is to treat equally for all the patients without discrimination. The radiographers should be aware of the institution's policies and sensitive to the patients care. Poor communication and unprofessional attitude can lead patients to be dissatisfied with the health service provide. Rarely hear complain from patients that poor service from radiographers. Some often working in health care for long hours might cause for the staff to be stressed. Therefore the communication would be breaks down. So to tackle this problem fairly communication for all patients is essential for both immediate and ongoing patient care. People visit to the hospital from diversity cultures to get health service and some radiographers might expect them to be the same as their own culture. As a result some misunderstanding occurs because culture has profound effects on our attitudes and on the ways in which we communicate and perceive others. Some patients could be come in the hospital from different countries that were raised with their own culture. The relationship between culture and communication is an integral part of our everyday life. We learn our reaction and habit from our parents where we were born and we live with it wherever we settled.
