Background of the Research
Employee wellness programs in particular are amongst the most important and the most effective tool that has been used in the midst of developing and evaluating the reputation of the non-governmental organization (NGO's) operating in the region of South Africa. However, careful analysis need to be done regarding their effectiveness on employees working with NGO's.
Problem Statement
The problem statement undertaken for the purpose of tailoring this research is 'what is the impact of employee wellness programmes, operating and undertaken in the non-governmental organizations (NGO's) in South Africa?'
Purpose of the Research
The purpose of the Topic is to delve into how effective Employee Wellness programmes are within the South African Non Governmental Sector (NGO) Sector and that if NGO's in South Africa have Employee Wellness Programmes since there is a lack of funding from and it is dependent on government contributions and donations made by the corporate sector. In case these NGO's do not exist, the research will also entail the alternatives, which make employees stay and aid NGO's to retain staff and continue working.
Research Objectives
The research objectives, extracted from the purpose of the research, are as follows:
How can employee wellness programs prove beneficial for non-governmental organizations (NGO's)?
What are the pros and cons of employee wellness programs?
What is the impact of employee wellness programs on NGO's and their sustainability?
What alternatives are available that could be used in place of employee wellness programs for South African NGO's?
Significance of the Study
This study shall help us understand the several issues and concerns that are associated with the development and understanding of how NGO's continue to make way for progress with determined and tenacious employees, to make them stay and work with the same level of zeal and fortitude to promote the noble cause of NGO's.
Limitations of the Research
Since the research has been undertaken shall be framed and tailored according to cost and time constraints, we shall only maintain our focus and consideration upon the employee wellness programs, undertaken and practiced in South Africa.
CHAPTER 02: LITERATURE REVIEW
For a brief understanding, employee wellness all those strategies, steps and measures which regard the emotional, mental, physical, psychological, spiritual and intellectual development and improvement of employees involved towards the progress and expansion of an organization (Anderson et al., 2009, pp.340).
Emerging a new discipline on the zone of industrial and organizational development, it has become extremely important as the health, safety, growth and ultimately the wellness of employees is a direct consequent of organizational health, growth and performance, which would actually help organization gain their set, defined targets (Cadsby, Song & Tapon, 2006, pp.1).
