CHAPTER 3: METHODOLOGY

In this chapter, we will discuss in detail the research methodology that has been used in conducting this research. Successful research is the product of well selected research methodology. This research is based on qualitative strategy. Conducting research means finding answers to the research questions. The main aim of the research is to find out what has not been discovered yet. The researcher has remained vigilant in understanding the link of the chosen methodology with the aims of the research. The aims of this research are as follows:

To study Eco-tourism and its impacts on society and environment

To identify current trends and opportunities for Eco-tourism in Yunnan province of China

To investigate the contribution of Eco-tourism in tourism industry of Yunnan province of China

To recognize barriers for the Eco-tourism in Yunnan and introduce suitable strategies to overcome the identified barriers

To recommend suitable strategies to implement sustainable Eco-tourism for achieving higher contribution to tourism industry of Yunnan province

Research method

The research on Eco-Tourism in Yunnan Province of China and Its Contribution to Sustainable Development is an Ex post facto research. The main reason for this is the fact that the researcher has not aimed at changing anything at all (Davies, 2007, p. 14). The purpose is to state what has been founded through the research findings. Since, the purpose of the researcher is to investigate trend for the Eco-tourism in Yunnan province of China and its contribution for tourism industry of China, it has used the survey methods for the research. In addition, this is an applied research in that the purpose of the research is not only to study the impacts of Eco-tourism for the Society and environment and the current trend for Eco-tourism in Yunnan province of China, but also to study if Eco-tourism can be implemented sustainably to achieve tourism industry target of Yunnan province of China. If the purpose of the research was only to highlight the eco-fuelling tourism importance in China then the research would have been fundamental (Creswell, 2003, p. 45). The purpose of the fundamental research is only to come up with knowledge for the sake of gaining knowledge. Hence, the purpose of the researcher here was to come up with eco-tourism rends in the Yunnan province of China and also using the analysis of the data garnered earlier make recommendations for improvements and implementation. In this research, however, no particular institution has been targeted. The purpose is to make sure that the entire Chinese tourism industry is covered as a whole.

This is a qualitative research. Qualitative research is the best suited research methodology when it comes to exploring issues and problems.
