Dual Language in Early Childhood

Introduction:

There are numerous methods for teaching and enhancing pre-reading or literacy skills to young children, as they prepare for the ultimate goal of reading. What may work for one child may not work for others. Many of the children learn in their own unique way. I am always striving to learn new techniques and methods in order to foster the learning of language concepts that will help the children to create a strong foundation for early literacy. Therefore, I will explore various strategies for teaching emergent or early literacy skills that can be used when teaching young children.

Purpose Statement:

The purpose of this study is to examine various strategies that can be used when teaching literacy and pre-reading skills to pre-school children. When completing my research, I want to gain knowledge about some effective strategies that can be implemented when working with pre-school children with special needs. I also would like to know how to implement these strategies in order for the children to achieve success in their pre-reading abilities.

Importance of the study:

The information gained through this study will be of great benefit to teachers of pre-school children with special needs. New strategies and techniques for teaching emergent literacy skills will be examined and assessed within this study; therefore allowing teachers to enhance their knowledge of various methods that can be used when teaching pre-reading skills to children with special needs.

Literature Review:

When teaching literacy concepts to pre-school children with disabilities, many strategies can and should be implemented in order to create successful learning. Each child's disability is different. Therefore it is imperative that a multitude of strategies be explored and implemented when teaching literacy and pre-reading concepts to young children with disabilities.

The paper discusses specific literacy strategies that can be implemented during learning centers and shared reading activities.

Strategies for Teaching Literacy Skills to Young Children:

Experimental Studies:

There are different approaches which enable the learners to easily understand the fundamentals of not only English language but to all types of English. Most of the good English language teachers use experimental designs and modules to broadly categorize the understandings of new learners. This experimental designs and modules help greatly to the new learners to critically analyze their views while learning new language. (Egbert and Simich-Dudgeon, 2001).

Computational Modeling:

Computational modeling is an effective tool in the learning phase. It has become the mandatory tool that enables language teachers to state clearly their understandings about the subject. The particular advantage of computer modeling is it allows the teachers to implement their ideas in very clear and specific ways and tests clearly of what they claim.

Studies of Brain Activity:

For language processing and training, the study pattern of brain activity has been increasingly getting popular in almost every part of the world. The language instructors today depend greatly on the brain activities related studies. This allows new learners to deeply understand the complexities of English language and ...
