Abstract

The purpose of this report is to provide an overview of the law governing the interaction between police and people with mental disorders. In this paper, we will establish a framework in which shall include an outline of legislation and case law applicable to this interaction. The relevant literature on the subject will also be incorporated. Police officers interact with persons with mental disorders in a number of situations. Depending on circumstances, different legal issues may arise. In order to successfully oppose the criminal offences of patients in psychiatric hospitals, sometimes you need the cooperation of the health system with local law enforcement agencies. This is especially true of situations where the assistance apply directly to law enforcement officials. This article describes the attitudes of police officers for mental health and psychiatric services. It also examines police procedures and the factors responsible for the police in cases of calls about crimes allegedly committed by a patient psychiatric hospital. For clarity, using a practical example that illustrates the complexities of the reader and the main stages of work related to the investigation of such cases
