Introduction

Desktop Publishing is a method of producing master pages for a book, newspaper or leaflet. The Desktop Publishing (DTP) program requires a considerable amount of main memory and disk space, since it will require the use of font files that describe the appearance of letters, digits and punctuation marks for use on a laser printer or inkjet printer. A DTP program was once distinguished from a word processor by being able to work with a mixture of text and graphics and the ability to use a wide range of font sizes and types. The distinction, however, is not a static one, and several word processors, including, Wordperfect, Lotus AmiPro and Microsoft Word, have very considerable graphics abilities and can be used to make camera-ready copy (sense 3). These word processors may even be preferred for setting long documents such as textbooks or novels. When the DTP program is started, text and graphics can be imported from other software or text can be typed directly and graphics imported. It is always an advantage to import text from a good word processor as it allows spellchecker and thesaurus options that will not be available on the DTP program. (Stonely 2007, 71)
