Introduction

Demonstrative communication is a process which defines the sending and receiving of messages. The concept inherently entails exchange of thoughts and messages or other forms of information. Demonstrative communication is done verbally as well as through non-verbal means. Further, this sending and receiving of messages is also communicated in written as well as visual channels.

Demonstrative communication includes non-verbal forms of communication. Facial expressions are thus also part of this category. Non-verbal means to communicate includes facial expressions, as well as body language and the tone of the voice used to deliver the respective message. It is arguably posited that positive facial expressions, compared with negative facial expressions are registered and recognized faster by the receiver. An example of this supposition is illustrated through the instant acknowledgement of a smile or laughter. On the other hand, frowning is an example of the way to communicate negativity in a message. There are wide arrays of facial expressions that could be classified as being positive or negative in connotation. Examples like a grin, is hard to pinpoint into a category of positive or negative. This is because some forms of grin can be perceived by the receiver as arrogant or smug and can thus be subjected to an interpretation of being a negative facial expression. Thus the receiver of the message could interpret certain facial expressions based on its subject matter alone. Utilization of facial expressions to attain effectiveness during a professional presentation would thus depend significantly on the subject matter. For instance, if the domain of the concerned presentation is of serious consequences; than it is vital that the accompanying facial expression of the presenter has to be of a serious disposition too. Thus, this argument entails that positive facial expressions have to be kept aside when discussing matters of seriousness. Likewise, if the discussion of a respective presentation entail funny and comical elements, than it is ideal to express positive facial expressions like a smile or a laugh. This consideration would increase the effectiveness of the delivery of the presentation.

Another key form of demonstrative communication is body language. It is argued that non-verbal communication impacts the delivery of the message by as much as 60 to 75 percent.
