Critical Analysis of American Beauty

Introduction

The film industry of America, famously known as Hollywood, has produced very few fantastic movies in its history which portray the American culture and hold great importance from the societal and public point of view. The main reason for such films is not merely providing entertainment to the watchers but to deliver them a strong message by attracting them and provoking their thoughts. Such films reflect the importance of socio-cultural viewpoints which affects the real-life incidents on a wide medium. Many films show the struggles, suffers and agonies of real-life events. The acts are performed by the actors who play their roles to portray the events and the though provoking message related to them. Though the facts and the events bare not reflected as real as they are in real in these films however, they achieve the attention of the people and the decision makers including government.

How it relates to audience

The film shows what are the problems faced by a normal person who is not only fighting to his early death but also is coping up with the mid life crisis within his family. The basic concept for audience that has been the source of attracting them is to realize that besides having such a big concern that is related to Lester's (who is the main character) life, instead of freaking out he still tries to manage his family issues that is normally what most of the American's have been facing in their life's. Many people have taken inspiration from this movie as to them; this movie might have proved to be a problem solver for the issues they have been facing which are somewhat similar to the problems that occurred in Lester's life within the movie.

Thesis statement

American Beauty accomplishes the goal in elaborating the concept of Happiness that is pleasant to a majority of its audience along with the bitter fact that the American society also possesses pedophilic adult, the dishonesty of living materialistically, and the domination in sexuality that are the symptom and causes for America's well-fed abnormality.

American beauty is a movie that has openly discussed some of the major issues for crisis within many families of US. Firstly it identifies the major problem that most of the men may have been facing in their life's that is no acceptance from their immediate family members, secondly it highlights that how a person, when disappointed from the attributes of his family can turn up towards a totally different life style for the sake of his own happiness. Finally it also explains the adult pathologies that are increasing within the society of US.
