Composition Project 1: Campaign Rhetoric (greenpeace.org)

In order to understand the use of visual and textual rhetoric with different backgrounds, I have chosen to conduct an analysis on the organization Green peace's global warming campaign page. As a dedicated environmentalist myself, I chose this because I felt it would represent my own beliefs as well, as per our slowly deteriorating environment and climate. I came across this campaign through different media outlets, TV, internet and print media. Since it is a topic that is of quite an immediate impact, it has been covered in several different ways, thus it was made easier for me to conduct this analysis. I will be examining the global warming and energy page.

First off, since this is quite a sensitive topic that requires a jolting image to create an impact on the audience, I believe the header image works quite well in its favor. The webpage has standard links and the search facility available on the top of the page but as soon as the topic begins, there is no beating about the bush. Hurricane Sandy's aftermath is clearly depicted in a wide photographic form to create a strong impression on the audiences mind. The signature use of right green as per the official brand colors of Greenpeace can be seen which make for good visual consistency. Elements of Web 2.0 are also clearly visible on the page which, for what it's worth, means it's up to date and harbors the latest trends of the internet.
