Introduction

The four phased management approach starts with initiation. In initiation, we start the project by business case documentation, study regarding its feasibility, its reference terms, and team appointment and managing a project office. Then we go for planning. In planning, we design the road map plan regarding project; it includes project plan. Then execution comes, where we compute the controlling of project delivery, cost, risks, scope, qualities and issues. Closure comes at last, where we wind down project by freeing the staff, hand over deliverables to the client and finalizing the post implementation interview.

The first type of project management is Traditional Project Management. It includes the scheme that can work for nearly all domains and scenarios. This approach uses standard tools and procedures for solving & managing the problems. The techniques and tools that are used in traditional project management have been verified for decades, so the result of pre used tools and techniques can be perfectly calculated. When unique environments and situation come, then we have to use agile management rather than project management, as agile management is designed to tackle with these situations. The advantages of agile includes, fast speed in the market and efficient in business strategies, reduced budget, rare deficiencies in the final product and limited scope changes.

Discussion

Basically project can be managed in two ways according to today's customs and traditions, i.e. traditional project management and advanced project management.

Traditional Project Management

This type of project management includes a set of methods and tools that can be used to an action that looks for outcomes, end product, or a service.

It can be understood by an example that you are working in an organization, where each person has its own desktop or a laptop PC. Currently your organization is using Windows XP, as a standard operating system throughout the organization.

Since Windows XP got obsolete and a new version of windows named Windows 7 is available, the management decides to upgrade the Operating system. The intention behind upgrading an OS is to enhance the efficiency and diminish the security threats of operating system. If your office has 100 computers, it can be assumed as an intermediate level project. But, if your organization has 15-20 branches, then your project can be considered large level project, with huge complications. Now you will besiege by the current task and will suffer confusion. You will also become clueless on how to initiate and proceed in this process. Traditional project management is there to solve your problem (Michael 2004).

Traditional project management can cope with this situation easily, as it has everything necessary to manage and effectively execute a project like this. As this sort of task does not need any customizations, therefore modern project management methods are not necessary.
