Introduction

The concept of community policing is not new, since the main principles were defined in the early 19th century. Police practitioners and researchers are well aware of the fact that the subculture of police is always resistant towards innovation which may challenge the part of police officers as crime fighters (COPS, 2012). It was not until the second half of the 20th century it finds applications extended on the ground, especially in France, Belgium, England and several U.S. cities.

Thesis Statement

“Although decreasing crime rate has remain an important factor of police department, police officers in the community policing works as community organizers and problems solvers in order to decrease the fear of crime from citizens alomg with improving the overall neighborhood life quality”.

Research strategy

In order to construct a persuasive paper, author will conduct extensive research on the topic of “community policing”. While researching the published, the most relevant studies were gathered from the publications of National Criminal Justice Reference Service. This federally funded resource service have detailed out the concept as well as the functions of community policing. On the other hand, the Office of Community Oriented Policing Services which is the office of the U.S. Department of Justice also provides well defined account on the subject. Publications by the Homeland Security Affairs also offer the statistics and management of community policing in the country. Other than these specific resources, research from databases such as EBSCHO, JSTOR, PROQUEST etc. will also be studied for an efficient research.

Discussion

The community approach is indeed a different approach to these problems and ensures the safety of citizens. It aims to create close ties collaboration with the populations served, to allow police services identify and better understand the nature of delinquency, violence and insecurity experienced by citizens in their immediate environment.
