Abstract

This paper intends to explore the concept of command centre. The study is divided in two sections, where the first section discusses about the practical grounds of command centre and the similarities and differences of dimensions between four dimensions of the emergency management in terms of physical command centre and virtual command centre. Further, in the second section it discusses about one of the capabilities and the technology that is being used at present to leverage the capability. In addition to this, future technology is also mentioned that may be used to maximize the utilization of the capability in a much better way. Therefore, for this purpose the capability chosen is 'Communication' and the existing technology that is being used for communicating is Internet. This capability is further examined in term of four dimensions laid down by the emergency management. Those four dimensions are Preparedness, Prevention / Mitigation, Response and Recovery. In the end it is concluded that it is a digital age where various technologies have enabled to communicate in seconds no matter how far the other person is across the globe. However, till date there are many technologies that are in process and many that are yet to come.

Command Center

The command center is a core element of decision making and information management. The key principle of the Command Center is to accumulate all the relevant information and process them as needed for planning and responding in an effective and quick manner, specifically in emergency situations. In the Command Center the inflow of communication shall be accumulated, grouped, assessed and presented, so this way the decision making shall be optimized.
