The NFL lockout is over. The issue came to an end with the efforts of NFLA executive committee and play representatives who agreed upon a new collective bargaining settlement. The agreement was formulated, after getting the approval of all the 32 members of the committee. This situation continued for almost the entire off season because of the lockout, but the remaining games, training camps and regular seasons will take place as per the predetermined schedule. The entire credit of resolving this issue goes to Robert Kraft (the patriots' owner), as according Jeff Staurday, representative of the Indiana Colts said: "Without him (Kraft), this deal does not get done." The teams are at freedom to negotiate with the free agents of their own, as well as other teams. Moreover, with the official launch of the free agency, players can now sign independent agents to contracts.
The interesting thing, which happened, is that now the players have to re-certify the union through vote and after this they have to vote once again in order to approve the final collective bargaining agent. Now, everyone believes that it is going to happen without a hitch. The lockout ended in a positive result after 136 days, which is, up till now the longest tenure of any lockout in the history of the football league (Lyer and Brown, 2011).
Strategies Used for Resolving the Issue
In my opinion, since the result was a win-win situation, there is nothing, which I believe, should not have been done. Thus, in order to resolve the issue, the strategy of collective bargaining was used, appointing free collective bargaining agents for every team of NFL.
