Introduction

A leader can affect the performance of a team in many ways. It is the responsibility of the leader to translate complex tasks into easier ones so that the followers can understand what needs to be done. The most important job of the leader is to align the interests of the followers with that of organization so that the organizational objectives can be materialized. The leader has to adopt a style that can be dynamic and caters the needs of the followers in a way that they acquire a sense of self-worth. It is the transformational leadership style that is supposed to work for contemporary leaders. This leadership style can prove helpful for a leader in his pursuit of team and organizational objectives by creating a culture of trust that gives conviction to the followers and rewards performance.

Every person in this world has different personality traits that can make them think and act differently from others. This variation can make or break the relationship between people. The leader has to make sure that the interests of the individuals in the team do not collide with the interests of the entire team because this can prove disastrous for the team performance. There are four personality types, described by Carl Jung, which can affect the thinking capability of a person. These types are Judging (J) - Perceiving (P), Sensing (S) - Intuiting (I), Extraversion (E) - Introversion (I) and Thinking (T) - Feeling (F) (Northouse, 2010, p.330).
