Dear Sir,

Botstein's outlooks on teens are far from the mainstream. The public accepts as factual that the teen years are inevitably a time of "storm and stress"--a viewpoint etched into the American consciousness in 1904 by psychologist G. Stanley Hall in a publication that characterized, and possibly even created, up to date adolescence. Teens, most persons would assert, are inherently incompetent and irresponsible, despairingly in require of defense and indoctrination.
